Leader – Child and Youth Outreach Program


The Position


The Program Leader will develop, supervise and support programs and events related to children and youth. Additional initiatives will be assigned as determined by Session.  The position of Program Leader will initially be for 12 hours weekly, and requires weekly Sunday service participation.


Time Frame


The position is for an initial two-year term, subject to satisfactory annual performance reviews and available funding. At the completion of the term an extension is possible.




The Program Leader will initiate, develop and supervise a weekly Sunday School class for youth, as well as a special event (such as Messy Church or evening youth program) every 6-8 weeks. In future years the leader could also co-ordinate special projects like a week-long gospel-focused day camp and allocate some hours for “creative hanging around” with youth or the after-school crowd in our parking lot. He/She will create a network of families with children and young people, offering them support and fellowship.


The Gloucester Child and Youth Program will endeavour to engage un-churched families and help them explore the good news of God’s grace that meets us in Jesus Christ.  The Program Leader will involve Gloucester Church families in inviting and hosting friends, colleagues and neighbours in creative, fun, teaching events.


The Program Leader may also initiate, develop, supervise and support other outreach events for children and families in consultation with the Minister.

Worship Participation


The Program Leader will have visibility in the congregation through regular participation in services of worship. This link provides important continuity between youth programs and the congregation that gathers on Sundays. The Program Leader will also help Messy Church participants feel at home should they choose to participate in Sunday worship.


Leadership Development


The Program Leader will recruit and provide leadership for volunteers from the congregation who assist in the implementation and operation of the various programs to be undertaken.




The Program Leader is accountable to the Session through the Minister. She/he will provide quarterly written reports to the Session, and will assist the Session in establishing yearly program development goals. The Leader will meet regularly with the Minister. During the initial six-month probationary period, a monthly check-in to update the Minister and another representative of Session will take place.  Following the probationary period, an annual performance review will be undertaken by the Session.


The Program Leader will work within a budget prepared in consultation with the Minister and Session and approved by the congregation.




The successful candidate for the position of Program Leader will:

  • Support the theology, mission and strategic goals of Gloucester Church
  • Complete a police check

Educational Requirements


Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (education, religion, arts & social sciences, social work, family studies etc.) Preference would be given to a candidate with French language fluency, experience with Special Needs kids, First Aid.

Vacation & Professional Development


  • Two weeks paid vacation, increasing to three weeks after three years. Dates to be approved by Session
  • A limited resource allowance may also be available




At least 3 references are required, including one from a faith-based mentor.
